Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Excellence in Education

The ANU Vice-Chancellor's Teaching Awards recognise and encourage excellence in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research supervision at the University.  Each award has a value of $4,000 and recipients are presented with a testamur at their College graduation ceremony.

Awards for Teaching Excellence

Awards for Teaching Excellence celebrate the University's most outstanding teachers in their fields. The awards give recognition to teachers (individuals and teams) for the excellence of their teaching, who have outstanding presentation skills and who have made a broad and deep contribution to enhancing the quality of learning and teaching in ANU.

This award recognises a sustained record of strong and innovative commitment to students, and best practice in introducing students to research and research networks.

Awards for Programs that Enhance Learning

This award recognises learning and teaching support programs and services that make an outstanding contribution to the quality of student learning and the quality of the student experience of higher education at ANU. The programs and services that can be nominated for these awards must have demonstrated their effectiveness through evaluation.

Citations for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning


Citations recognise and reward the diverse contributions that university staff and associates make to the quality of student learning in higher education.

VC Awards Committee

The Committee will meet in each year to consider the submitted portfolios and select winners in each category. The committee will comprise of the following:

  • the Deputy Vice-Chancellor or nominee
  • Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning, Teaching & Students) or nominee
  • a nominee from the Students' Association
  • a PARSA nominee
  • two members of academic staff at the level of lecturer or above, preferably past recipients or nominees for the Australian Awards for University Teaching.
  • the Director, CHELT
  • other persons as appropriate on the nomination of the Chair

Announcement of awardees

Awardees of the Vice-Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence in Education will be notified by the Vice-Chancellor, and the Deans and Directors of each College and Division will be notified. An announcement will be made through the ANU media and also on the CHELT website. The Awards will be presented at the ANU graduation ceremony.

Award monies

Prize money will be administered by CHELT on receipt of the Disbursement form. There are two options for award recipients to access their Award money:

  1. paid to the awardee though payroll, or
  2. transferred to a recurrent account in the awardee's local area.

Nominations open: 1 November 2011

Nominations close: 30 November 2011

Information sessions: 3 February, 2.00 – 3.30 and 13 February, 10.00 – 11.30,  2012

Portfolio submission: Friday 23 March, 2012

Announcement of Award recipients: May 2012

Presentation of Awards: At the Conferring of Awards ceremonies for each College in July 2012.
